Turku Finland

Turku is a city on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River. The oldest of all Finnish cities, Turku was once the capital of Finland and is now the country’s fifth-largest city. Although few medieval attractions remain, Turku has managed to retain a strong historical character, with various archaeological exhibits housed in its museums. One of the most impressive sights is Turku Castle, which dates from the late 13th century and features two dungeons. Equally notable is Turku Cathedral, one of Finland’s most important churches, with many interesting side chapels. Considered a suburb of the city, the island of Ruissalo is easy to reach and is home to a zoo, the University Botanical Gardens, and a renowned golf course.
